Fishburne Swimming vs Massanutten Military Academy

1/26/2009

1/27/09

What a way to end a season!  Not only did we beat Massanutten, we doubled their score!!  Our swimmers did a fantastic job.  Montgomery finished first in all of his events (Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay, 200 IM and 100 Breast).  The 50 and the 100 Free are generaly not our strong points, but our swimmers came in second and third in both of the events.  It almost looked like our 200 Free Relay were also going to come in 2-3, but Fasana had a spectacular last leg and caught the MMA swimmer for a sepctacular first place finish.  Gallina stepped up and swam the 200 IM for the first time; he hurt coming out of the pool, but earned us some good points.  Connor Smith came in first in the 200 Free by over 10 seconds; he couldn't quite believe it and kept checking the other lanes, surprised to be the only one at the wall.  Billy Clare came in second in both the 200 and 500 Free, but dropped 36 seconds from his 500 time.  Alex Daugherty came in a strong third in the 500.  This was Yeago's first meet and though he only swam an exhibition 50, his enthusiasm and excitement were contagious.  The final score was Fishburne: 62, Massanutten: 31.  Our season record is 3 wins, one tie, and 5 losses, not as remarkable as last year, but these swimmers gave it their all and everyone dropped considerable time.  Congratulate our young men on a successful season.    - Coach Gray
